Campaign for Real Ale

Ale Trail 2024

Welcome to the Darlington CAMRA Ale Trail 2024.

After a successful first year we've brought it back, bigger and better. This year we have 18 pubs from our branch region taking part. As with last year, our aims remain the same -

  • to promote the great Real Ale pubs that we have in our local region that put Real Ale to the fore.
  • to remind pub-goers and Real Ale drinkers in the area that Darlington CAMRA is an active organisation promoting Real Ale, saving pubs and engaging in social activities.
  • to create a fun event with prizes that may just introduce someone to a new favourite pub.

So, on to the rules of the event:
    • The Trail will start on Saturday September 14th and run until Sunday 29th October giving you a full 6 weeks to get around as many of the pubs as you can.
    • You can buy the Ale Trail maps (£1) at one of our 3 HQ's - House of Hop in Darlington, Steam Machine in Newton Aycliffe and The Old Well Inn in Barnard Castle.
    • For every pint or half pint of real ale, real cider or independent craft beer you buy, you will be given a corresponding colour-coordinated sticker to add to your map.
    • Once you have completed your map, return it to one of the HQ's to be entered into the Prize Draw. See the Ale Trail - Pub List and Prizes page for more details. Follow the Ale Trail on social media. we have a Facebook page and an Instagram account.

FAQ's
Do I need to be a CAMRA member to take part?
Not at all. The ale Trail is open to everyone. If you're not a CAMRA why not join? Click here to find out about the benefits Join CAMRA

If I'm a designated driver, can I get a sticker?
Yes, if you are accompanying someone on the Ale Trail who is buying a drink that qualifies for an Ale Trail sticker then you can also receive a sticker if buying a soft drink/non-alcoholic drink.

What if I don't complete my map?
Don't feel you need to try and complete the entire map to take part. There are other reasons to buy a map and participate e.g. to visit new pubs or beat your total from last year.

Can I enter the prize draw but still keep my map as a memento?
Of course. Just email us, message us on SM, or let the bar staff know when you hand your map in that you would like it returned and we will get it back to you after the prize draw has been made.
